We’re excited to be taking part in the North Midlands Theatrical Area Scholarship Heat, taking place on Sunday 8th June at The Theatre at Woodlands School, Derby (DE22 2LW).

This is a fantastic opportunity for our dancers to showcase their talent and compete for scholarships that support their continued training. To enter, please complete the entry form, and make the payment.

Deadline for entries is Friday 16th May – no late entries can be accepted.

If you’re unable to attend this date, you’re welcome to enter the Northern Area Heat on Sunday 22nd June instead. Please speak to Miss Vicki if you’d like to do this.

Each dancer must be accompanied by one adult throughout the day, and a £8 spectator fee applies. This must be done directly through the NATD website.

The event is a solo competition and additional costs will be necessary for private tuition and costuming. Please take this into consideration when signing up.

Theatrical Genres include: Ballet, Modern, Tap & Contemporary
Age Ranges: (Ages taken from the date of the heats)
Junior – Age 6-9, Inter – Age 10-13 & Seniors – Age 14-17

Event Format & Heats

Our exciting heats will take place in June and July across four regions of the country. Competitors will participate in a 30-minute class, and the top five highest-scoring candidates from each heat will be invited to perform a solo at the Grand Finals in Birmingham.

The competition is divided into three age categories and includes four dance genres, offering a wonderful opportunity for dancers to showcase their talent in their chosen field.

THEATRICAL SCHOLARSHIP RULES AND REGULATIONS

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

Candidate entry is strictly through the school principal who is an NATD teacher with a current membership card/number.

HEATS

The NATD will hold 4 Scholarship heats -

North Midlands Northern London
South Western

The Heats will comprise of a class format lasting 30 minutes each.

Up to 5 highest scoring competitors from each class heat will go through to the Grand Finals. Candidates will be marked out of 50. To be considered for a finals place, candidates must achieve 25 marks or more in the classes. Heat winners will be announced for each class in all areas.

CLASS AGE GROUPS

The Committee Grants Scholarships are held in the following age groups: Junior (6 to 9) Inter (10 to 13) Senior (14 to 17)

The age of the candidate must be correct at the time of the Heats. (Qualified dance teachers are ineligible)

DRESS CODE FOR HEATS

Practice dress only (No school logo’s)

HEAT AWARDS

All candidates will receive a certificate or a medal of participation.

SCHOLARSHIPS GRAND FINALS PROCEDURE

a) Finalists to perform a solo in the genre they were nominated. (In the event of a tie at the heats the committee grant an extra place)

b) The solo’s are to be performed by each of the finalists. The solo performance will be of 1 and a half to 2 minutes duration.

c) DRESS CODE - Solo Performances are to be fully costumed with theatrical stage make - up.

d) Pointe work shall not be permitted in the Inter Ballet section.

e) Re-Dance will not be permitted in the Scholarship finals unless there has been a technical or equipment failure. The committees decision is final on the day.

f) If candidates cannot attend the finals we will go back to the area results and those with the next highest scores will be offered a place.

MARKING

All candidates will be adjudicated purely on their solo performance. Heat marks will not be taken into consideration at the Grand finals.

ADJUDICATORS

The adjudicators will be selected by the Scholarship committee.

MUSIC

a) Music for the solo dance must be provided to the Committee prior to the Grand Final Event as a playlist will be created for all sections. scholarshipmusiccoordinator@mail.com

b) Back up music is advised and must be immediately available (preferably on laptop or iPod)

PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS

PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS WILL BE TAKEN THROUGHOUT THIS EVENT By taking part in this event, you grant the NATD full rights to use images resulting from photography/ video filming, and any reproductions or adaptions of the images for publicity. This might include, (but is not limited to) the right to use them in their printed and online publicity, social media, and press releases. If you DO NOT WISH to be specifically photographed/ filmed, please inform an event organiser. Please be aware that there is NO guarantee that you will not appear in an NATD audience background shot unless you contact an event organiser before the event. Any photographs/video footage taken on a personal camera/ device should not be placed on social media without the specific consent of a responsible adult or the people directly captured in such images and video footage. Photography and filming is prohibited in all toilets and changing areas.

SCHOLARSHIP GRAND FINAL AWARDS

  1. a)  The Scholarship winners of each genre and age section will receive a £100 prize fund and a trophy award. A payment will be issued to the School Principal of each Scholarship winner, this is to be used for their students continued training with that particular school.

  2. b)  Runner up and 3rd place to receive a commemorative award.

c) All finalists will receive a trophy of participation.

DISCLAIMER

a) The NATD will not be responsible for travelling expenses to the Scholarship heats or finals.

b) Competitors dance at their own risk.
c) Should a dispute arise, the decision of the committee is final.
